At Lone Star Elementary School in Montgomery Independent School District, traditional rectangular desks and curved tabletops are designed to combine into multiple configurations depending on the day’s lesson, while mobile storage keeps the room adaptable instead of static. Together, they give teachers room to move and present from anywhere in the space.

This isn’t just aesthetic. Research on classroom design has found that layout and flexibility can account for as much as a 25 percent impact on student achievement, with flexible, easily reconfigurable layouts identified as one of the few design factors with a measurable effect on learning outcomes.
